Art as a Start

Pomp and uncertainty

But whither today? What about Brit Art - does that afford the art viewing public of the future a similar insight into our aesthetics and ultimately our daily life. Yes it does. A grainy black and white photograph of Ms Emin’s un made bed (I really do feel she should sack her cleaning lady) imprisoned in a matt black frame says more than enough about our monochromatic Nihilism. Mr Hirst’s spots or spins show our unwillingness to allow colour to exist unbridled on a wall; instead we prefer it constrained by the parameters of an art piece. Art today, I fear, will show history an insecure and mealy-mouthed collection of individuals that will inevitably sit so very uneasily within the gorgeous pomp and panoply of all that went before.
