About this work
Peploe was a leading figure of the ‘Scottish Colourists’ group of painters whose work was inspired by the French Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. This bold still-life draws upon the examples of Cézanne and Matisse, in particular, offering a fresh interpretation of their interest in colour and structure. (Permanent collection label)
