About this work
This diptych belongs to a group of closely comparable works

in which the Passion of Christ is recounted, often in vivid detail,

to encourage the viewer to imagine they were present at the

events. The order in which they are to be read, whether from

left to right, top to bottom, or vice versa, can vary. In this piece,

the narrative begins at the bottom left with the Annunciation and

follows from left to right until the Pentecost (the coming of

the Holy Spirit represented as a dove) at the top. (Permanent collection label)
