About this work
According to the Gospel of Saint Matthew (4: 18-20), Christ was walking on the shore of the Sea of Galilee when he saw the two brothers Andrew and Simon – later known as Peter – in their fishing boat and asked them to follow him. Saint Peter is shown here spreading his arms towards Christ as if in response to his call.
Lama was one of the minor painters who worked in the studio of the prominent artist Luca Giordano (1634–1705).
