About this work
Sebastián de Herrera Barnuevo was the most eminent of Alonso Cano’s followers. In this design of a graceful sculptural group, the influence of the older artist’s technique is evident in the free black-chalk underdrawing gone over with pen and ink and modelled with a rich chiaroscuro wash.
